No matter the setting, woprds and phrases significantly impact patient and family experiences, decisional outcomes, inequities, bereavement and legacy.Social workers as experts and leaders in communication can model and educate as they attend to their own language in speaking and documentation, and invite colleagues to join them in mitigating the unintended consequences of ineffective and harmful work choice.Learning Objectives 1. Recognize that language and word choices are integral to palliative practice and has the potential to create unintended consequences, creating distance when the goal is to create relationships2. Utilize constructs such as testimonial injustice and delegitimization to inform communication whether in documentation or conversation.3.
